Shooting the West XXII — Contests
Give it Your Best Shot RANGE Outback RoundUp
Sam Hipkins presents Give it Your Best Shot Winners

Give It Your Best Shot is both a juried show (with awards) and “just” a show, giving participants an opportunity to present their work to the public. You are invited to enter a maximum of two prints, which will be hung in our huge display space in the East Hall of the Convention Center. We’re talking about a lot of prints; every year we receive around two hundred entries. It makes for a beautiful and interesting show!

The symposium presenters choose their two favorite prints, the Speaker’s Choice and Merit Awards. Participants also vote for their favorite print, the People’s Choice Award. We’ll end Saturday afternoon with the awards presentation in the West Hall. Then we’ll move over to the East Hall for our big Give It Your Best Shot Reception to send the event out with a bang on Saturday evening.

Entry Details:

  • must be enrolled in symposium to submit prints
  • maximum 2 prints per person
  • entry fee is $5.00 per print
  • mat size is limited to 30” in the longest dimension
  • prints should be framed, wired and ready to hang
  • your name MUST NOT BE VISIBLE on the print ◊ if you have signed the print or mat it must be covered so that it is not visible
  • entries will be accepted in the East Hall between 9:00 am - 4:00 pm Thursday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm Friday, and 7:30 am - 10:00 am Saturday

RANGE sponsors this contest, which could launch your career and lead to fame and fortune (you just need to redefine fame and fortune). The Shooting the West Committee helps with judging and other administrative duties (like commenting on and receiving images). Winners are announced and shown at Shooting the West, and published in RANGE magazine. Winning images are often subsequently used in the Real Buckaroo Calendar, to illustrate feature articles in RANGE magazine, and for advertising future contests. This is a great opportunity to get your images into the public eye, and learn about the intricacies of the publishing market.
