About Shooting the West Workshops

richard-teaching

The expanded workshop program was a huge success last year. It proved to us that folks are really hungry for more knowledge that they can put to use in their photography. We’re running about the same number of workshops as last year — nine classes in fourteen sessions, across three days, in addition to the Portfolio Reviews and Individual Photography Sessions offered during the symposium. These workshops cover a diverse range of photographic topics, and are taught by extremely qualified individuals.

Our instructors have credentials. Jay Dusard is the long time master photographer of cowboys and western culture. Taki Telonidis and Hal Cannon are nationally recognized video and audio producers. Marilyn Newton is the “grande dame” of Reno photojournalism. We are very fortunate that these folks are willing to lend their efforts to Shooting the West.

We are also committed to developing and improving our workshop program over time. Stuart Scofield, Chair of Shooting the West, taught workshops for U.C. Santa Cruz Extension for nearly thirty years. Those classes were started by Ansel Adams in the late 1960’s, and developed into one of the premiere programs in the country. Stuart is determined to use that experience to continually improve our selection of classes and the quality of the teaching.

True to the spirit of Shooting the West, these classes also represent terrific value. Similar workshops through university and/or private programs are much more expensive. Our instructors are committed to the event, and they give generously of their time and talents.

So we hope you’ll take advantage of these learning opportunities. Click on specific workshops to go to a detailed description and instructor bio.
